Grandmother and her partner tortured her 7-year-old granddaughterNotitarde–Caracas, October 26, 2024–. Officers from the units attached to the Basic Criminal Investigation Unit of the Protection Section of the Atlántico Police Department in Colombia, in coordination with the 12th specialized Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Barranquilla, arrested two people, through a court order, for the crime of “Torture in Aggravated Circumstances.”The detainees are a 42-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, who physically and psychologically abused a 7-year-old girl, causing serious bodily injuries.”We found a girl in a lamentable condition, a girl suffering from malnutrition, cigarette burns, abuse, injuries, and bites. The girl’s nails and teeth were almost torn off,” said Atlántico Police Commander John Peña.It was learned that the captured woman is the girl’s maternal grandmother and had been caring for her along with her partner, the captured man, who took advantage of their relationship to torture the minor.During the operation, the commander of the Atlántico indicated that “during the investigation, we discovered that there were a number of cults and Santeria practices, witchcraft, and we need to determine the circumstances linked to the attack on this girl. There were also other children in the residence, but this was the one who was being tortured by her family.”The two individuals arrested were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office. Authorities encourage the community to report any criminal acts that affect community life and public safety.
